My trip to I-City was a fun filled trip. (thanks for the invite from Nic/Dolly & wifey!) Just equipped myself up with minimal gear as I could and off to this city of lights.
The 1st impression when I entered I-City was… wow, these people really invested a lot of money & effort doing up this place!
I snapped out my trusty camera and started warming up by shooting those safe shots. Yawn….
After a few minutes, I just felt to let loose & go wild with my imagination & want to capture how I saw I-City!
I believe a few people thought that I was mad (maybe it was just my wife! ) as I was just erratically moving & making my shots!
Whether the shots are ‘nice’, ‘wow’, ‘what in the world is that’ or ‘I think you should change your hobby’…. it does not really matter because I played, experimented, discovered, ran around, jumped & laughed at myself.
Another facet of photography is the essence of who you are and how you see things…. so remember to ‘play’ when you are out there shooting, you won’t know what you would discover!
1st… the safe shots…. Yawnnnn….

Working with 360 Panos, you can convert them into little planets which are quite cool and gives your images a fun feeling… out of the world effect…
Here goes!
1. First, shoot a 360 image. You can use a panohead likeNodal Ninja
2. Then create a Full 360 Degrees Panorama or DOWNLOAD (Right click- Save As) my example file.
3. Load the file in Photoshop.
4. Change the Image Size under ‘Image– Image Size’.
5. Set width to the same size as height (uncheck ‘Constrain Proporties’) to create a 1:1 square. (example file: change 4000 x 2000 into 1000×1000 pixels).
6. Rotate the image 180 degrees under ‘Image—Image Rotation— 180 degress’
7. Use the ‘Polar Coordinates’ filter (Rectangular to Polar) to create the planet. It is at ‘Filter- Distort- Polar Coordinates & select ‘Rectangular to Polar’
Tadaaa!!!

As you know most Dslrs have a mechanical shutter. How you know it?
Every time you press the shutter button, you can hear the sound, ‘click clak’ Ooh… my camera has devalued by one click!
Don’t worry… I have done some maths, if you shoot averagely, your camera can last you about 5 years before the mechanical shutter MIGHT go. A normal Dslr shutter mechanism has a life span of about 100,000-150,000 .
I still have my trusty D70 and it is still alive & kicking!
Those with electronic shutters (usually most compacts), just go clicking away!
Ok… here goes:
1. Download & install Opanda (http://www.opanda.com/en/iexif/download.htm The free viewer version)
2. Shoot a JPG photo in your camera
3. Download it to your PC & load it in Opanda Iexif
4. Then view the exif:
Tadaa! There you go! So continue to shoot and don’t really bother ’saving’ your clicks!
The weather was wonderful as the sun was hiding behind the clouds and the guests arrived early and were as excited as the bride & groom!
Kidd & Charis ensured the whole event had touches of love and this was evident in the lovely details throughout the wedding. Every guest, children included, enjoyed themselves!
It has been an exciting month indeed of weddings. Our weekends had been packed but we really enjoyed sharing moments with our clients!
What I understand from people, they said that most chinese ppl, would want to marry before the year of the Tiger. There are a number of reasons but the one that I hear most is that they would not want to have a ‘year of the tiger’ baby. More stubborn? Harder to find a mate? I’m not so sure on the reason… my quest for this question still remains…
Will post up some of the shots soon… But 1 below we were just playing around with a fussion of ‘painting with light’…
Cheers!

Those of you who are interested & would like to have chance to be recognised, you can enter KL Photo Awards 2010…
From my brief observation, the portraiture that they are looking for are not ladies in skimpy swimsuits (no offense intended) but more of photo journalistic in nature:
3 key elements that are important:
1. Timeliness
- the images have meaning in the context of a recently published record of events
2. Objectivity
— the situation implied by the images is a fair and accurate representation of the events they depict in both content and tone
3. Narrative
— the images combine with other news elements to make facts relatable to the viewer or reader on a cultural level
After snapping away a few hundred shots, you go home, download your images to the computer and suddenly you see spots on your photos… yikes! Sensor dust! It will take you hours to touch up all your photos on photoshop. Goodbye sleep!
So, if you want to avoid that, what you can do before you shoot is….
1. Go to ‘manual’ mode and set your aperture at the highest f-stop i.e.: F16 and above,
2. Leave your ISO to 200
3. Point your camera to a white wall or a clear background
3. Adjust your shutter speed to 1-2 secs and above (check your metering to ensure it is not over exposed– allowing about 1/4 to 1/2 stop overexpose would be just nice…)
4. Point to the blank wall or background and as you press your shutter button, shake your camera (if you can’t focus, just leave it to manual focus)
5. Download your photo to your PC, and view it 100%
If your camera has dust… it would look like this!
Sensor Dust- The black spots
Looks like I have to clean mine. If your camera is still under warranty (ahem…only for Nikon cameras), the service center does it for you FOC. Well, for the rest of you, don’t worry. There are sensor cleaners – dry or wet types. I may do a short tutorial if I clear up my backlogs!
PS: To those who do not know how to clean the sensor, don’t start taking your cotton buds out and wiping the sensor with alcohol! If you do that, you’ll be wiping your tears later! My advice would be to read up and get a better understanding first as the CCD sensor has a layer that scratches easily.

Have been waiting officially for my papers from the government on my license to teach and finally it is here! Lecturing in a local college here does give me an avenue to share & teach through these years of my experience & knowledge mainly in photography although am also trained in advertising & marketing…
but as many of you know photography is not just the camera or lens, it is about perception & the eye to see beyond… an art & science plus lots of hardwork…
I should have given them a funkier photo… I look so well mannered…

In between this hectic month of events & weddings, we were booked to shoot the new Audi Showroom in Imbi, KL. I would say it is huge by size but did had a chit chat with the manager and he said that is it small compared to a few… hmm..
We shot the place before it was open, so to my dismay, no cool cars in the showroom…
Because of the wide nature of the space, even my ultra wide lens could not cover the whole area. We had to use a fisheye to stitch a few the photos below as an example….
We shot a 360 too in the middle of the place…. again I wish that there were the cars especially my wife’s favourite, the TT… Maybe the next round and drive the TT home?
